Our Future: our dear children, the apples of our eye
- Amber Rachel was born on 4 Tevet, 5760 (Monday 13 December 1999), and is named for her father's grandmother, Rachel Levitt. Amber was twelve on Friday,
December 30, 2011, and was Bat Mitzva the next day. What a way to spend New Year's eve! Her Torah
Portion was Parshat Vayigash and Haftorah:
Ezekiel 37:15-28, and she prepared a project as well as speeches about her Portion, delivered at the Kiddush after Shacharit, and about her project, delivered at a dinner in the evening, Motzei Shabbat. Find out more here.
- Yonatan Mendel was born on 14 Cheshvan, 5762 (31 October 2001), and is named for his father's father. Since he is the seventh in a line of alternate Michaels and Mendels, meaning that none of them has, so far, lived to see their grand child of the same name (Ashkenazi tradition is to name a child after a deceased family member), we made a decision, devised by my wife, Riva, to break this bad cycle whilst still maintaining the tradition, giving Yonatan the name of Mendel as a middle name, rather than as a first name. We are sure this means that I will indeed live to see Yonatan's children, and he need not name any of his sons Michael - and please G-d he will have many children! By the same token, with Amber's children!
- Yonatan will be thirteen on Friday, November 7, 2014, and will be Bar Mitzva, please G-d, the next day in Eshchar, where he will read from his Torah Portion, Parshat Vayeira. Find out more here.
- Amber & Yonatan have a family photograph album going back through the generations, annotated, with details of relevant parts of their family tree. You can view it here.
