Sisters Hanale (Henia) & Teibale (Taybe, Yonina) Levitt
הניה בת יוסף הלוי ז"ל
טייבה-יונינה בת יוסף הלוי ז"ל
1928 (Hanale), 1930 (Teibale) - unknown date during Shoah
Hanale and Teibale were born in Abel, Rokiskis, Lithuania to Yosef and Fridl Levitt, within two years of each other. Pictured on the eve of war, after Pesach 1939, Hanale, 11 (middle row, second from right) and Teibale, 9 (bottom row, far right) were gathered with friends and family for a group photo seeing off Rivka Orlin (top row, fifth from right) on her trip to South Africa, a trip that would save her life. The only other person in this photograph who survived the Shoah was Yaacov Charit (far right middle row, next to Hanale).
Hanale and Taibale were my third cousins. They are remembered in pages of testimony held at Yad Vashem: Hanale and Taibale.
